Here is the Upper Half of the Block..
 The Oil Slots get in the way of any bearing Shim.. 
And these are the shims sitting on the bearing shell.. these are 'length One' for the Shims.. ( Long ).. IF another shim was to be placed with this shim on the same shell half, it'd be shorter in Length by about 1/4 to 1/3.. Do not want the sides of the bearing to get tight.. No real load is taken there, but the heat generated there will still destroy a bearing.. Lets the Oil 'Pool' at the sides .. Again.. Best is to have bearings and Journals that will fit each other.. but if you do not have the choice ( or are like me.. CHEEP ).. use the Shims.. Be warned.. it can go all wrong.. Cj
